This study consists of two complementary parts. The first part examines the economic importance of Austrian companies with foreign participation and thus implicitly of international direct investments in Austria. By means of international panel-econometric analysis the effects of international direct investments on research and development (R&D) and economic growth in Austria were analyzed as well. In addition, the effects of international direct investments on R&D, human capital, transport routes and supply chains were revealed based on a literature and data overview.
Part two of the study examines the economic effects in connection with the employment of international skilled labor in Austria. Moreover, an analysis of the economic impact of the expenditures of international students in Austria was performed.
