Peter Grand has been the project leader of the European Social Survey (ESS) in Austria at IHS since 2017 and has been a member of the Competence Center Survey Research since 2025. He earned a PhD in Political Science from the University of Vienna in 2014 and joined IHS in 2007.
Peter's work focuses on coordinating the ESS in Austria, including translating the questionnaire, coordinating the sample design, preparing and monitoring fieldwork, processing the dataset, and disseminating results. His research interests focus on the analysis of behavioral and attitudinal data—such as welfare attitudes and electoral behavior—as well as on the interactions between ecological and social attitudes. His work employs a wide array of quantitative methods and aims to generate policy-relevant findings for decision-makers.
