Susanne Forstner has been the Head of the research group Labor Markets and the World of Work at IHS since January 2025. After receiving her PhD in Economics from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy, in 2013, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) in Stockholm, Sweden, and at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, before joining IHS in 2016.

Her research interests center on the economic analysis of labor markets. One focus of her work is the interactions between labor market policies, social security systems, and public finances in the face of demographic and technological change. Another focus is individuals’ labor market expectations and their implications for lifetime earnings and aggregate labor market outcomes. In her work, Susanne combines quantitative methods of microdata analysis and macroeconomic modeling.
