The prestigious award, which is endowed with 4,000 euros, recognises her outstanding academic achievements and her work at the interface of research, knowledge transfer and societal engagement.
Laura Wiesböck's research focuses on social inequality, particularly in the context of work, poverty, gender and digitalisation. In addition to her academic work, she is an enthusiastic lecturer on topics such as the sociology of love and coolness as a cultural practice. Her academic career includes research stays at the University of Oxford, National Taiwan University and the University of Ghana. In January 2025, her new book Digital Diagnoses. Mental health as a social media trend’ will be published by Zsolnay.
Since 1951, the City of Vienna has annually presented these awards to celebrate emerging artistic and scientific talent, encouraging recipients to pursue their future endeavors. Honorees are selected by independent advisory boards.
