Thomas Czypionka is Head of the Research Group Health Systems and Health Policy. He holds degrees in both medicine (sub auspiciis praesidentis) and economics. He was a visiting Senior Research Fellow at the LSE twice and has published extensively in several top journals across many fields of health economics and public health. 

He is regarded as one of the leading health economists in Austria and Europe and has thus served as national correspondent for international organisations like WHO and OECD as well as a policy advisor nationally and abroad on numerous occasions. He was also a co-founder and the first president of the Austrian Health Economics Association (ATHEA).
