  • Marcel Seifert is post-doctoral researcher at the Behavioral Economics research group at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS). He holds a PhD in Natural Sciences (Life Sciences) at the University of Vienna. His interdisciplinary research spans behavioral economics, behavioral science, and anthropology, focusing on pro-environmental behavior and sustainable finance.

Marcel’s research investigates strategies to enhance sustainable finance literacy and promote sustainable investments. His work has been published in journals such as Ecological Economics and the Journal of Banking and Finance, where he addresses the barriers to climate-friendly behavior and the role of information provision and knowledge in driving sustainable financial behaviors. In addition to his finance-related research, Marcel is involved in a large-scale field experiment aimed at reducing littering in Viennese residential areas.

In a current working paper, Marcel Seifert investigates the role of sustainable finance literacy in greater sustainable investments and fewer potentially greenwashed investments. In a recent experiment, he develops and evaluates interventions (educative nudges and classical default nudges) to improve sustainable finance literacy and increase sustainable investments.

Marcel Seifert gained his master's degree in Anthropology (2021), with a specialization in Human Ecology and Behavioral Biology at the University of Vienna, graduating with honors. His academic path has been enriched by involvement in various interdisciplinary projects and research stays at the Radboud University (NL),  University of Innsbruck (AT) and the University of Stavanger (NO).
