Seating accomodations - knowledge gaps and training-needs in cities

Project Lead: Robert Braun
Team: Anna Gerhardus
Duration: 2022
Funding: EIT Urban Mobility

Benches and other seating devices are crucial for urban quality of life, for assisting active modes of mobility and reinventing urban space. Well-thought-out seating accommodations can induce behavioural change to active modes of transport and contribute indirectly to the mitigation of climate change. But traditionally, benches are conceptualized as design objects not as implements animating urban spatial politics. This activity aims the development of a shared knowledge base for cities, allowing for designing and creating multiple forms of stationary implements assisting different potential user needs. We will assess knowledge gaps and policy needs of key stakeholders and decision makers and propose contents and formats for trainings for different stakeholders.
